Imam Husayn settled at the house of ′Abbās Ibn ′Abdul Muttalib. The people of Mecca visited him and pilgrims visiting the city for the upcoming Hajj season also visited him. Ibn az-Zubayr also visited the Imam, but he was jealous that the Imam was attracting all the attention. Occasionally, Imam Husayn went to visit the grave of his grandmother Khadijah, and prayed there. Before he left Mecca, he sent messages to the leaders of the city of Basrah, Malik Ibn Musma′ al‑Bakri, al‑Ahnaf Ibn Qays, al‑Mundhir Ibn Jarud, Mas′ud Ibn ′’Amr, Qays Ibn al‑Haytham, and ′Amr ibn ′Ubayd Ibn Mu′ammar.

In the year 60/680, al-’Imam al-Husayn (A) stayed for about three months at Makkah in the course of his movement against the succession of Yazid, the degenerate son of Mu’awiah, to the Caliphate. Yazid had assumed the leadership of the Islamic world on Mu’awiah’s death in Rajab 60/ March 680. his way of life was representative of the common among the youth of the Umayyad aristocracy during ‘Jahiliyyah’.

By one estimate, Hazrat Ammar ibn Yasir (Radiyallahu Anhu) was born four years before the year of the elephant, which means Hazrat Ammar ibn Yasir (Radiyallahu Anhu) was four years older than the Prophet Muhammad (saw), because Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born in the year of the elephant.

When Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) announced the message of Islam at the age of forty, the poor and the persecuted listened to the message of Islam. They believed in it, so their hearts were filled with love for Islam.

In Ramadan, 2 AH, 313 Muslim fighters or Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) went outside Madina Al-Munawara to attack a Quraishi trade caravan coming from Sham (present Syria). The caravan was very big and had one thousand camels. Abu Sufyan, the enemy of Islam, was leading this caravan.

When the Muslims or Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) immigrated (Hijrah) from Makkah to Madina Al-Munawara, the polytheists attacked and robbed their houses. For this reason, the Prophet (pbuh) wanted to bring back the Muslims' money. Besides he wanted to punish the Quraish. So, he began threatening their trade caravans.

Malik bin al-Haarth al-Nakhay belonged to an old Yemeni tribe. He became a Muslim by converting to Islam, in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). He was loyal to his religion Islam.

Malik bin al-Haarth al-Nakhay took part and fought bravely in the Battle of Yarmuk. He had brave attitudes in stopping the Romans' attacks against the Muslim Army. So, his eye was split by a sword, namely, its lower lid was split. Thus, he was called al-Ashtar.

Salman the Persian details: Early Years in Persia (Iran)

According to the investigations and researches of the Arab historians, Salman was born in or around the year 568 A.D., in a small town in Persia called Jiyye. The modern city of Isfahan stands on the site of Jiyye. Incidentally, Salman was not the name given to him at his birth. His Persian name was Rozeba. Many years later when he became a Muslim, his master, Muhammed Mustafa, the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and his Ahlul-Bayt), changed his name to Salman. During the years when he was at the court of his master, Muhammed Mustafa, his friends sometimes, also addressed him, as Abu Abdullah (the father of Abdullah).

THE VIRTUE OF STUDYING THIS CHAPTER

In regards to the virtue of the recitation of this chapter, a tradition from the Noble Prophet says

One who recites it (Suratul Kawthar), Allah will quench their thirst from the streams of heaven and will recompense them good rewards as many as the number of every sacrifice which the servants of Allah make on the day of the Feast of Sacrifice, together with those sacrifices which are of the People of the Book and the pagans.3

The name of this chapter, al-Kawthar, is taken from the first verse of the chapter

COMMENTARY OF THE VERSES

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful

“إِنَّا أَعْطَیْنَاکَ الْکَوْثَرَ ۝ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّکَ وَانْحَرْ ۝ إِنَّ شَانِئَکَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ”

“Surely We have given you (Muhammad) abundance of good (al-Kawthar).  Therefore turn to your Lord in prayer and sacrifice.  Indeed your enemy is the one who will be without offspring

!WE HAVE GIVEN YOU (MUHAMMAD) MUCH GOODNESS

In this chapter, similar to what is seen in Suratul Ḍuha and Suratul Inshirah, the Noble Prophet is the focal point of the address, and one of the prime objectives in all three of these chapters is to grant consolation to the Prophet in relation to the continuous painful incidents and
