It has been told that an Arab man entered Madineh and asked : " who is the most generous man here ?" he was guided to Imam Hossein . The Arab entered mosque and saw that Imam was praying .After he finished praying ,the Arab man asked him to remove his need.
Imam asked Ghanbar :" Has something left of commodity of Hijaz ?"Ghanbar replied :"yes 4000 dinar ".Imam stated :" Fetch it ."And asked the Arab man to go to his home .Then Imam packed the dinars in a piece of material and because he was shameful against Arab man feeling that it was a little , he hold the money ,extending his hand out of the door to give it to him . The Arab man took it and cried .Imam stated :"Was it little ?" the man said :"No,but I am thinking how can such a generous hand be buried in soil ? "he meant that it was a pity ,a generous man like this would die.
Furthermore ,Ins Ibn Malek narrated :" I was serving Imam Hosssein ,a maiden gifted him a flower .
Imam told him :" I free you for God's sake ".
I said :Oh! She gave you an invaluable flower !While you freed her .Imam prescribed :"Our God has thought us in this way ,prescribing : "Whenever someone gifts you ,give him a better gift ,or return to him something with same value."The gift I could give her ,better than her flower ,could be her freedom ."1
Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h.) was feeding the hungry and dressing the nude ,paying for debts of those indebted ,supporting the poor .He was friend of orphans ,assisting those in need, grating whatever property he would receive to the needy and the poor .
Imam Hossein and family of prophet ,would accept money for removing needs of the people and creating friendship at their hearts ,so they were so generous that they were gifting like the rains.
One day Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h) was passing somewhere .A few children were eating a piece of bread .They invited him to eat with them. He accepted it with much kindness.Then he took them home to feed them and to give them new clothes and stated: "These children are more generous than me , because they gave whatever they had ,but I only gave a part of what I had ."2
From other valuable speeches of Imam Hossein (p.b.u.h) are the followings:
"I heard from prophet of God that : the best of work is to pray ,to make the faithful happy by doing for him something other than guilt ".
